About us

The Institute of Pastoral Counselling was launched in 2001 to provide high quality professional counselling training which took seriously Christian theology and spirituality. This was initially carried forward by running day seminars for counsellors wanting to explore the interface between their professional practice and their faith, and by offering an Advanced Diploma and University validated Diploma in Pastoral Counselling. We currently run short and longer Continuing Professional Development courses for both counsellors and clergy.

The Institute of Pastoral Counselling was founded by Ruth Layzell, Alistair Ross, Philip Allin and Rosemary Langford-Bellaby. Mogs Bazely joined the team in 2005 when Rosemary left to give more time to her other commitments. Ruth and Mogs are the current co-Directors of IPC.
